The Sky is Green – Photographs of Amazonia

The beauty and grandeur of the Amazon is hard to describe to those who have not been there. It is much more than a great river shrouded in mystery and myth. The immensity and lush primal beauty of the Amazon rainforests and its massive river system is overwhelming, even for the seasoned traveler. The dense forests envelop those who enter and cover them with a sky that is green, while the 48,000 miles of navigable rivers and lakes provide avenues of light.

I have made three trips to the Amazon concentrating my efforts on documenting the diversity and beauty of the flora of the rainforests by making fossil-like “Lumen” prints of plant specimens. During my travels, I also made thousands of photographs documenting the waterways, rainforest, wildlife, and people of the Amazon.
